backyard
One place that comes to mind is Plymouth, Minnesota. I have lived there for all of my 19 years and now that I am living in Chicago I can see how Plymouth is my own backyard. It is where I have had the ups and the downs in life. It is the place where my roots are so strong and I keep growing, becoming an adult in the real world. I have had so many great memories as a child that it makes me a happy, loving person and wanting to share all that happiness to others. There has been a few rough times growing up, and learning from them makes me a stronger person. Going to school, having my first couple jobs, and meeting great people all came from Plymouth and that's why it is so close to my heart.

Samantha, it is great to see the metaphor stretched here, in that Plymouth is your whole backyard. Since I myself was raised in Maple Grove, I completely understand the idea of the whole town/city as a yard, especially given all of our lakes and parks.
I think that it is really cool that you are so passionate about your backyard and how much it means to you! I also think it's awesome that your community is what you consider your backyard.
I am very passionate about my hometown since it has been such a big influence in my life. I think about Plymouth and it's hard to pin point why I love it so much, just the fact that there is a big part of me there and I have gained so much growing up there. So many great memories and it reminds why I am the way that I am.
